For those with Toyo Proxies, a warning...

They are garbage in the snow, especially if you have the wide 275/315 staggered setup. Northern VA got a good hit of snow this week and I figured I'd take it easy on the roads since I am aware that these tires are performance rated and not winter/snow tires. Well two nights ago I was making a 90 degree turn into my buddies neighborhood at about 5-10mph with maybe an inch of snow/sleet on the ground and went straight into the curb. I did not slam the brakes or turn too sharply, the thing just did not want to turn period. Well needless to say my front left wheel got scraped to hell, but I was just glad it didn’t do any damage to the tie rods or bearings. I found a wheel repair place in Fairfax yesterday and got it repaired for $140, they did an awesome job and you can’t tell it was ever hit. Too bad I sold my stock wheels otherwise I would have used them as a winter setup with some good snow tires. Just a word of warning as I know a lot of you guys with replicas have these tires, be careful in the snow!!!

All season means - good in no particular season. Like jack of all and master of none. Cannot compare all season to seasonal tires.

When you were turning and then noticed you were sliding, did you put power to the wheels? I hit the gas a little bit when I slide and i'm turning in the snow to put power to the front wheels that are steering the car..That helps a little bit to maintain turning control in the snow.. I did it twice yesterday in the same weather conditions..I also have low pro tires 275/40/20..

my bad.

315's are pretty wide for snow - probably floated like a sled.

I would think the Toyo with the aggressive tread design would be better than the Michelins. Anyone have experience with both??

I'm a day away from purchasing these tires and read this thread. Is there anyone else that can chime in about the performance of these tires in the snow?
