which part? if it's about the perfume, i did a contract job (IT) at Givaudon, the second largest maker of flavors and fragrances and learned a lot about the industry. it's amazing.

if it's about porsche ride height, it's from participating in a porsche forum similar to this.

the other stuff is just personal observation.

This is the most assinine thread ever. BimmerDude's point A alone would be reason enough for BMW not to have region specific vehicles since they're all made in a single factory. And bottom line, who cares if there is a difference? Euro vs. US, Euro vs. world, world vs. US, etc. Let's remind everyone that this is a forum for the appreciation of our X5s and not to spread the kind of anti-american sentiment that will unanimously get flamed by other posters?

actually all makes of cars do vary considerably for the markets to which they are destined. using different bits and pieces when assembling the car wouldn't require a different factory. it is standard practice.

it's called conversation. i thought that's what we were here for.

strange, i didn't pick up on any anti-american sentiment in this thread. a small criticism hardly qualifies for "anti-american sentiment."

Are you fricking kidding me guy? Yoiu need to chill, seemsm to me liek you are insecure, what do you ned to make it a political issue, the very reason i joyned this forum is because i love BMW and i owb one, AMERICAN VERSION TOO? so i do not accept your critisicm, all i'am doing is having a conversation and you did the very thing that i was affraid of. Honestly, i was considering not to start a thread because of this, I I'AM NOT HERE TO HAVE ARGUMENTS AND againn you write things that makes me not start threads or write anything at all.

Sounds like there could be some truth to US models being a tad weaker in certain areas..It makes sense since they have to meet US spec..But its kinda dissappointing. I wish the US models were the highest quality or at least up to the Euro standard..

actually i did some research about taking my swiss X5 to n. america and was told i couldn't because it didn't meet american standards for safety. i would assume that implies that my X5 is not as safe as the american versions although i find that tough to swallow.

i can understand changing the lights and a few other things but safety standards??

Doesn't mean it is not as safe, just means it doesn't match DOT specs. Could be something as dumb as white signals instead of amber....it is all wrapped under the title "safety".

Oh okay. So the lower trim versions of BMWs are built for poor people who can't afford the fancy BMWs?! I guess our X3 2.5i is going to be a worse vehicle than a X3 3.0si. At least my gearbox works all the time and doesn't leave me stranded in the middle of an intersection.
