Self Leveling Suspension Inactive?

So I went out to my '03 X5 4.4i a little while ago, jumped in, fired it up, and took off. Maybe a smidge quicker than usual. Then I noticed the words "SELFLEVEL SUSP. INACT" on the dash screen. I haven't seen that before. I drove a few miles to my destination and parked. When I returned a few minutes later and fired it up, the readout didn't say anything. I turned the X off and restarted a few times, to see if something would change, It didn't. No more warnings. So I came back to work and parked. I'm not sure what this is all about.

Anybody know about this warning? Why would the self leveling suspension be inactivated? Did I do something to cause it, or am I looking at a repair bill heading my way? I've only had my X a few months, and I'm still learning.

Thanks,
Dave
