self-level suspension/rear fully elevated

I've got a 2001 X5 3.0. I've got the Self-Level Suspension Inactive warning and the rear of the X5 is fully elevated.

I've done a search but the symptoms on the site are opposite to mine, i.e. the rear is sitting low.

Any tips?

TIA,

Thanks for the reply. I've tried resetting the car (uncabled the battery for 2 hours) and nothing. I've tried cleaning the sensors, still nothing. I'll try replacing the Level Sensor. If that doesn't work, I'll probably have to go to the dealer.

Did you check all the fuses for the suspension ?
It might be as simple as that, or as you say faulty sensor

Yes, that was the first thing I checked. But both fuses look ok.

Do all x5's have this Self-Level Suspension? I don't think mine does, or it could just be broken? How do you tell?

All the stock E53's have, but not the 4.6i model. The Self-Level Suspension works automatically, so you can not adjust it.

However, even the 4.6i does not have the Self-Level Suspension, the damned car may give Self-level suspansion error messages.

I think you are wrong...
i think that it became standard after the facelift 09/2003 i am not sure if it applyes all the models (3,0i 3,0d, 4,4, 4,6is and 4,8is)

About is models i think that thay do have selflevel, with manual option as standard
