Thumbs down Key dosn't start the engine

Hello to all of you, nice ppl!

I have X5 2003 and one of the keys doesn't start the engine. All buttons on the key are working and I can open doors, trunk and close the car. But when I plug the key into the ignition, turn it, everything is very normal, driver's panel is all lighting, but the engine just DOESN"T START????

BMW dealer said I need a new key. Is this right? Can I program or re-program the key?

Thank you very much in advance!

Yes, this happened with mine as well. Search this forum. There are 2 different procedures you can try to reprogram.

The same exact thing happened to me...I just stopped using it and started using my other key..But I've looked at those reprograming guides on here..Would those work to actually be able to make it start the car again? Everything else works..but it just wouldn't start the car...My guess was that it had a bad chip in it..

Primetime - follow those instructions. They worked for me. You've got nothing to lose but ~ 5 minutes of your time.
