Question New member-2006 X5 4.4 i with assorted Dinan

Last month I upgraded my 2006 4.4i with three Dinan mods. Got the cold air intake, new throttle body, Dinan exhausts and Stage 3 engine software.

Noticable increase in acceleration and growl. BUT when I pull out onto the highway from say a gas station, or a store on the side of the highway, I'm getting violent jerking and stopping...as if I can't get into gear. I've had this happen in both Steptronic and Sport mode, haven't yet tried the regular Drive mode.

Is this a known issue??

Funny thing, doesn't happen on straight-a-way acceleration, only on a turn-and-merge acceleration.

As far as I know Dinan doesn't have tranny software for the 2006 E53, maybe that would solve it?

:xoutpost:

Sounds like an issue with the new TB perhaps - I think others have had problems with them. I'd check that first.

I don't think it have to do with your upgrade, I have an 04 4.4i and it doing the same thing, like when I slowly stop at a stop sign and then step on the gas, I can feel the gear doesn't want to engage and then when you step the gas a little bit more it jerk, like something is holding the gear back.

funny thing this happend to me same situation today.
think it has to do with the transmission/gear being caught at a specific speed between shifts.

I think your wording is correct, especially when you try to slow down at a stop sign without a complete stop and then hit the gas.

Yeah, it's that "hesitation" thing - it's like the computer has to think for a moment before saying, "OK, let's go" - I've learned on my 2006 to use a gentle throttle - My 2001 with Dinan S2 just slams me back in my seat and says, "OK, you can let up when you get scared."

No, it's not hesitation or LAG I'm talking about. I don't have much lag at all after my Dinan upgrade. It's much more responsive on a straight-away with the CAI and the new exhausts. The problem I was talking about is a violent, "jerky" transmission misfire when the steering is turned more than say 20 degrees. As I gun the gas during a turning merge, the car jerks to a stop, then jerks forward, then jerks to a stop again.

Dinan does not have tranny software for the 04 to 06 4.4s. So I have the stage 3 engine software, but not the tranny software. I have no idea if that's part of the problem.

call/email Dinan and ask them what they think - I could not imagine what it might be

4.8is Dinan

yes. I have the same problem with my 2005 X5 4.8is, but it only happens once in a great while. It feels and sounds like someone ran into my rear bumper. I plan on bringing it into BMW to have them take a look at it. Maybe they can solve the problem.
