HELP - VEHICLE WILL NOT START

My 2000 X5, 4.4i has been having starting problems which I posted on some weeks ago. Some great help diagnosed it to the key as sometimes when you try starting it keeps kicking and rolling the engine EVEN after you leave the key. 2nd problem was it sometimes will not start until 2nd, 5th (etc) attempt.

Yesteday, I decided to try fixing the continous roll. Discovered that when we replaced the kick starter relay in the engine box and powered it directly with 12Volts, it started ALWAYS 1ST TIME every time we tried !!!.

Believing there was some fault between the key and the relay, we ran a cable from the relay to the ignation key socket and that was the last the car started. Now, the engine just rolls with no atempt to even start. What could have gone wrong. Have we reset the security or something ?.

Please help, we are in a very remote location with limited tools. No information comes up on the computer.
