Need some help

Hello, I replaced my original BMW CD changer with a BMW CD MP3 changer, same connections and everything. However, now if I don't remember to turn of the radio before I shut the car down, next time I start the car, the Navigation unit doesn't recognize the CD changer? You only get Radio and Tape displayed when you press the mode button on your Nav screen. I have to turn off the radio, turn off the car, wait for couple of seconds, turn the car back on, turn the radio on and then it starts to recognize the CD changer. This was never an issue with the previous CD changer, what the heck?? does the car need to be reprogrammed, or should I start all over, by turning off the radio, then the car, unplug the 3 pin;6pin wires and replug everything. I believe my Radio might have been on the first time I disconnected my old CD changer but the car was turned off.... Weird...... any advice?? is this a programming issue that can be corrected or do I need to put a post it note to remind myself to turn the damn radio off before turning off the car otherwise the changer won't be recognized.
