E53 Seatbelt Retracts slowly

on my '04 the seatbelts retract way too slow and seem kind of weak, ive also closed the door with the buckle outside of the car since it didnt retract.
anyone else have this problem and had it fixed under warranty?

I have the same problem. It's annoying when I get in and the seatbelt is everywhere! I blammed it on my wife until it happened to me! Still looking for a quick fix I suppose.... I don't feel like taking anything apart right now!

My '05 driver side belt is starting to do the same. I will also be curious to see if anyone has addressed this. I have been pretty much ignoring it.

your seatbelt is probably twisted inside the door pillar where the seatbelt retractor is

Both my rear belts were really 'lazy' Exaclty as described I found both to be twisted. Problem lay between the shoulder strap and the mechanism. Fiddly to get to but just remove the rear corner cushions.

I've also see several people comment that they get crap inside the roller mechamism and once blown out problem seems solved.

However if you're under warranty just take it in for free.

I have the same issue on both front ones. My mother in law has the same issues also on both her front belts also.
So it seems to be a common problem.

Both of my BMWs do this

My 97 528 has done this for years on both front belts
The 04 X5 has done it since I bought it and the dealer said "they all do it." then took me to the lot and proceeded to show me every 04 and 05 on the lot and the all had lazy belts.
