I put NGK Iridiums on my 2001 3.0L X5 last week. Everything is running great so far.

Do they make any difference from the standard plugs?

Platnium for me

I don't discount the benifits that some people find from using iridums.

I've used both, and from my standpoint I don't see that the benifits outweight the cost difference.

I use NGK G-Power Good performer Great Value.

Right now, NGK Platinums and Iridiums are same price $6.98 each at Advance Auto and Oreilly Auto. (Autozone is $7.49) ... So, i take it your vote is Iridiums in that case

I ended up getting Iridiums.

Just changed them and came back from a test drive. Definitely smoother and idles at lower rpm. Now before anyone says, that its simply the difference between old and new plugs rather than iridium and platinums, Both our cars (X5 and Z3) use the same OEM NGK BKR6EQUP Platinum Spark plugs.

I changed the Z3 to OEM Platinums and X5 to Iridiums. Definitely 10-20% difference between the two, fwiw.

Go with Iridiums. Even BMW does for latest models. BMW uses Iridiums now as OEM for 2007+ X5s and other models.

The old plugs had 74k miles on them, so I can't say that the type of plug made the difference, but I noticed real improvements in the low end smoothness of the car.
