Anyone ever have this problem??

2003 x5 3.0. Put shifter in Park, but still showed "D" on the console. The light would not turn off, doors would not lock. It would not shift out of "D" on the console. The battery wore down and reset itself. Any suggestions? A auto transmission. Thanks 100k miles

Sounds like a bad shifter-position sensor.

I have a somewhat similar issue.....when you put the shifter into where "D" normally is, it goes into "S". When you nudge it over to "M" it wont go into manual mode, but will remain in "S" with "4" underneath it.
