Unhappy '04 headlamp bulb replacement help!

I know this has probably been discussed already but I've searched and searched and can't seem to find a thread that is helpful.

I just got an '04 X5 and i'm trying to change the OEM Xenon bulbs with a 6000k bulbs I got. I owned an '03 X5 before and that was a breeze just following the right up on the front page of this website.

But this is an '04 and the only thread i found is where it says I need to remove the whole bumper to get the headlamp out. Is there a way to do it without taking the bumper out? This is the only thread I found and I took all the screws out but the bumper wouldn't budge at all. I gave up...

http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/l...placement.html

Can anyone point me in the right direction. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

anyone?

i wasn't asking anyone to do it for me. i only needed assistance in how to get the bulb out. i was just hoping someone can point me in the right direction or have someone tell me another way of doing it.

i've relied on this board before and have always gotten help. i would hate to think that no one ever had this problem except me

Blk03X5, if you scrolled down on that link at the bottom you'll see a brief instruction for facelifted or '04+ X5. I also replaced stock bulbs so I have done this a couple of times. You don't have to remove the bumper at all to get to the bulbs. There are four small screws holding the back cover from the rear of the headlight housing. You have to remove these screws. The two at the top are in plain sight so that's the easy part. There are two more at the bottom rear of the cover and they are hidden from view. It will help if you have smaller hands since there's very little room to maneuver. Once you unscrew all four you can just slide out the headlights but it won't go too far and then just reach in with your fingers and change the bulbs.

GL!

thanks breyton...so you're talking about the black plastic part on the back of the headlamp cluster right...I did see three that are screws that needs an allen wrench to take out. Those are what you're talking about right...if so then i have seen them.

That is correct. The two bottom screws are underneath and hidden from view.

wow, that's a tough one to do...like you said, smaller hands makes it easier. I was able to take out the top two on the passenger side since there's lots of room to work with...i could barely get my hands in there for the third bottom visible one...

i can imagine scraping my knuckles on the driver side. it's really tight in there. but nonetheless, i will give it a go and keep you posted.

thanks again for your help breyton...

Yes my knuckles took a bit of a beating. Just make sure you don't drop those screws. What bulbs are you putting in there?

i got 6000ks. i would like to upgrade my AEs but that's another whole story...for now, i can be satisfied with even just changing my lowbeams.

i have dropped a few screws before...but that is my main concern for sure. i'm just going over how to do it in my head all morning long now since i'm at work and can't wait to get on it when i get home.

did you take out the battery on the driver side? i have an allen wrench but its like a screwdriver that you can change tips. did you use a special tool to get it done?
