Folding mirrors on side dont work

Hello all,
Need some advice. I press the button to fold the side mirrors and the fold in. However, they automatically open up again. I would like them to stay folder in when i lock the car. Can anyone tell me why this happens?

I have a 2003 X5 3.0 Litre Sport.

Search the threads here. This has been discussed several times.

Basically, this is a fairly common problem. The circuit board that controls the position of the mirrors has gone haywire. It may be fixable, or may need replacing. Some report they've had the same issue repaired multiple times.

the actual problem is a flimsy tab connected to a microswitch in the mirror pivot point. Its likely popped off.

Search for "folding mirrors"
A cure can be used, if you're a little a DIY guy.
Just have to open the mirrors and re-set a small metallic tab that activates the micro-switch.
A 10 minute job per mirror if you find the easy way to open the plastic covers of the mirror housing...
