Is this the same thing?

Is the Crankcase Vent Valve the same thing as the Oil seperator? Took it to the shop today and I told them I needed a new oil seperator and they said it was the same thing. I've never heard that, and I seriously doubt that it is the same thing. Does anybody know for sure? It was an Indie mechanic shop that works on BMWs but I need to know if its the same part, because if it isn't...I'm going to go off on them..The last thing I need is some idiot telling me they know more about what the name of a part is than me. Furthermore, if it isn't the same thing..I doubt I'll take my car there ever again...

After, reading and searching old posts..I found out that it is indeed no where near being the same thing..they are two completely different parts..Sure they are connected to each other but not the same thing...This #%$!! place is ridiculous...If you live in KC, don't take your Bimmer to Autopia....

Primetime, I know your pissed off, I was in your shoes 2 years ago. Believe me, the more you get mad the less they will help you. I learned that the hard way. Good Luck....

I would hit the local Stlr and ask if they will cover some/all of it under
"good will" or, the possible under the radar "customer complaint fix"
for that specific problem...I recall a few posters getting it r & r'd for
free or reduced cost, and I sort of recall a non-pub'd TSB for that
ubiquitous cold weather problem, too.

Worth a shot...the worst the Stlr can say is no and you can take it to an
Indie then to save some dough.
