4.6 exhaust tips

The 4.6 tips will fit on a 2001 3.0is right? I think they're $220 for the set out of Morristown. Also, will the tips change the exhaust sound at all? My guess is no since I would just be getting the tips and not the entire 4.6 exhaust system. Thanks.

The 4.6 tips fit but you'll need to have a shop first weld on a splitting tip (single inlet to dual outlets). Then you'll have to add the 4.6 onto the dual tips.

This thread pretty much sums up the whole process. AND there are no sound differences.

Thanks Jay...very helpful..I'm assuming this is the only way to install the 4.6 tips? No other way without purchasing the y pipes right?

well, its not the only way, but it is the best way to make it look good. imaging you weld that big tip on a single outlet pipe, awful. after you install the 4.6is tips on the y outlet, spray the inside with high temp black paint.

Is there any bumper trim cutting involved? It looks like they might have to cut a bigger hole out of the plastic trim piece that goes along the buttom of the bumper where the holes allow my stock 3.0 tips to come out. Meaning, do they have to cut the holes wider? So the new 4.6 tips would be allowed to fit?
