Question X Keys

I interested to know how may keys eveyone got when you purchased you X

I noticed that there are 4 keys listed in the User Manual.
2 Master keys sets
1 Spare key
1 Door and ignition key

When I purchased my X (used) I only received 1 master key...So dose that mean my other keys are out there somewhere. . I'm thinking I may have to change my ignition to prevent thief. (Is there anything I can do?)

Also, How much dose BMW charge to cut a new key? I heard that MB charges in the $400 range (per key).

Keys

From new, every X5 has the keys you indicated.
(2 master, 1 spare/emergency, 1 door and ignition).

If you buy a used/CPO X5 you may receive something less.

The X5 'knows' what keys to recognise. Go to a friendly dealer; they can plug your X into their dealer diagnostic system and tell you which keys are currently active.

With proof of ownership; they will disable any keys that are not in your possesion.

A new master key is expensive, approx $150 and comes from BMW direct and requires photo ID/ownership proof.

While at the dealer; consider turning on the 'disable alarm with remote only' option.

I rec'd 2 master & 1 door/ignition with the 2001 X5 I bought 8 weeks ago. But one master key was never used with the X5. So now it nolonger activates the remote. I tried driving with it for awhile, as suggested, but it did not 'recharge'. new one on order. A reminder that you should use both keys regularly.

when i got my my 02 X5 about 10 month ago i only got 3 keys, so i told the sales guy that i need the Door and ignition key (th4 key) he told me he would get it for me free of charge, i called him a few times and all he tell me is that it has not arrived. and 10 months later i`m still waiting. BUT you know how they had and offer that they make the first payment when you buy the car, well they made 2 payments for me by mistake, and now they want me to pay them back the second payment, so i told they when i get my key that i was promissed i will forward they $750 to them last time i heard from them was 4 months ago

You lucky dog! $750 buys you alot of keys! FYI...BMW no longer provide the 4th key. All you get are 2 regular keys plus the plastic one. Looks like the bean counters has gotten to this one

Just put down $250.00 for 2 new master keys. My master key only works part time. The circuits must be fried.
