46k is not a lot of miles. These cars are tanks. I think a good compromise is to take the cost of a BMW warranty ($4500) and put in the bank earmarked for car repairs. My guess is that you will not kill that account before 100k miles. I

If I'm wrong and you use up the $5k well before 100k mi, then sell the car and chalk it up as a learning experience. You still will have only spent the same $5k that you would've had you purchased the BMW warranty. The only way you can really get hurt is if the car experiences a catastrophic failure costing well more than $5k by itself. Unlikely. Just my $.02.

CPO Extended Warranty

Just purchased 2004 X5 3.0i with 40k miles. I went with CPO/Extended Warranty just to cover any of the major issues that might arise. I know it doesn't cover everything but I felt it was worth the extra 4k just in case. Good luck, I hope you're as happy with your new X as I am.

put money in your bank account , enjoy car ..have a fun ..
2) sell the car , and after still have this money .
And that sugestion will perfectly work for the next buyer of this car ..!

$4000+ for a warranty to 100k or 7-8 years would not be worth it unless your transmission or engine takes a crap. not likely to happen.

and if you finance the 4K it'll cost you more by the time it's paid off. if you have the cash put it in a savings.
