Transfer case being replaced

My 2005 X5 4.4 w\ 33k miles on it is in the shop for two days because I was hearing a slipping or "klunk" sound at very low speeds when parking and in parking lots. After much testing with BMW's lab or whomever they are saying they are replacing the tranfer case.

After reading through the forum I don't see this as a common thing but on the one hand I'm glad that they are doing it and not giving it back with "a trans software upgrade. Last week I took the car back to purchase dealer and bought it out and extended the warranty that would have expired TOMORROW.

Anyone else go through this and what was your experience afterward?

On a lighter note. I always turn off the GPS screen at dealer but the folks at the dealer came running out before I left and said the techs wanted to know if the car was a special KISS addition. My reply.."uh... yes it is"....

I'm not sure how your 2005's 4yr/50k warranty can expire tomorrow when my 2004's warranty is expiring in March Unless of course, time warps due to that special KISS edition

BMW warranty in the US is 4yr/50k. How could you possibly have a 3yr limit?

No, you're right I extended the four year to 6 or 100k

My monday morning QB not quite as bad as I thought.....ugh though now my low mileage may work against me unless I move.

Anybody else had this Transfer case fix though?

Hey Acezoned, I have a 2005 4.4 also and I get the clunk noise while reversing and turning going at very slow speed like the parking lot. What do you have to do with your X5 to get the clunk noise??

The best way to emulate it that I found was pulling into parking spaces and taking a wide turn with just a little gas. That's what the dealer heard and convinced them. Got it back today and it rides like brand now in regard to the way the transimission is working.

I wonder....
Are there any of the 3.0i X5's that have had this issue or are they just with the V8's?
