New X5 Owner - Can I retrofit a Screen
I have recently became the proud owner of a 2001 X5 Sport 4.4 --- Can anyone let me know if I can retrofit a 16:9 Screen in place of the business Cassete player???? I have fitted a CD Changer already and intend a some stage to fit other upgrades (Sat Nav, TV, DVD) -- if this can be done will I need to have a seperate Radio player in the boot or is that built into the screen??? Sorry for being thick but I have had company cars for the last 20 years and changing a tyre is a challenge to me!! Cheers from Scotland!!!!!!!!!!! |

Brilliant!! -- Got to the BMW X5 4:3 to 16:9 Navigation Widescreen Retrofit Page and this looks simple enough -- Just a couple of more Questions --- I Dont have the 4:3 Screen fitted just the Cassette Player - will all the wiring at the rear of the 'Business Cassette Player' just 'Plug and Play' into the rear of the New Monitor????? Also is there pre-installed cabling for the Nav/TV/DVD Systems to the Rear Cargo Stow???? ----Thanks Again and up yer kilt!!!!

Thats what i did, i upgraded from 4:3 to 16:9 and the 2 connectors just fits right in, plug and play and your screen should adjust automatically. You will need 2 brackets though to secure the screen and cut parts of the plastic frame inside. Check the homepage, everything is there.
As far as the TV/DVD, i think you would need video modules and EAS carries all of those and anyone here would contribute as to how this can be done. Like i said, i am not sure... |

i misread your OP, my apologies.....yes, like waht tom says, you will need a nav harness and run it all the way to the trunk and connect the nav computer, it's costly but better than aftermarket, in terms of looks, functionality, not so many features compared to aftermarket ones but OEM is what i have and all i need.
