PLEASE HELP -BIG SMOKE OIL ON PIPES

I WAS DRIVING MY BMW X5 AND ABOUT 2 MILES INTO DRIVIND THE CAR STARTED TO SMOKE AND STOPPED, I HAD NO WARNING SIGNS NO CHECK ENGINE. THE BACK PIPES HAD OIL ON IT, BUT THE CAR IS NOT LOSING ANY OIL? I TOWED THE CAR HOME AND I TRY TO START THE CAR IT STARTED TO MY SURPRISE, I LET THE CAR RUN IN THE GARAGE FOR 45 MINUTES I HAD LOT AND LOTS OF SMOKE WITH A VERY BAD SMELL. AFTER A WHILE THE SMOKE WASN;T SO BAD AND TODAY I AM DRIVING THE CAR AND IT RUN NORMAL. ANYBODY KNOW WHAT HAPPEN? PLEASE I NEED HELP I JUST PURCHASE THE CAR 1 MONTH AGO? IS IT OK TO DRIVE THE CAR?
