Newbie researching buying an X5
I'm looking at Silver 2002 X5 4.4 which is being sold for $19,990. I wanted to know if this is a fair price or should I keep looking? Below is the link to the X in question.. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Peace http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ce=&cardist=38 Thanks Again. |

looks nice! Same colour combo as mine! Looks like sport package too! Try to find out the service history! That will determine roughly how much money you have to put into it in the near future!

I see that it has sport package, premium sound, cold weather package but $20k is a lot for that kind of mileage. do you get any warranty for that money? any idea how many owners has had the car?
looking at those pictures I see that it has lumbar support for front seats. thats a plus. |

that price is high for that mileage, but it is clean. looks like the tires are sort of bald(?), and it has the dreaded dead pixel problem.

To add to this, I personally wouldn't own a newly purchased "used" BMW that doesn't have at least a two year warranty, especially on a 4.4i. A good initial price doesn't necessarily mean you will come out ahead during your X5 ownership. The place you buy your BMW form could make the difference as well.
With the slow economy, you may be able to swing a CPO X5 for near the price of this vehicle. Let us know how it works out for you. Last edited by bimmer; 02-06-2008 at 11:35 PM. |

Too high! It does look in good shape but at that mileage you start having all sort of issues, all fixable but costly. Also do not go for a used X5 without a good extended warranty.

Mileage smileage. If it has been properly maintained it should be fine. Take the VIN to a dealer and they should be able to provide the service history. Then check the CV boots, LCB's and cam cover gaskets, all need to be replaced at or by this number of miles. Then look for any replacements to heater fan final stage unit. Not much money but a pain if it drains your battery over night. Too many people get hung up on miles when maintenance is the ultimate variable. Run a Carfax to check for accidents then work them on price a bit. If you like it and it checks out GFI, No biggy...

I would keep looking, the price is high The car is approaching a mileage where maintence and replacement parts are more expensive. I think you could do better and learn more about the options and colors you really want. Good Luck

I agree for the miles it's way too high. Mine is extremely similar, extremely clean, and I only have about 62k miles and I don't think mine is worth the asking price of the one in question. I've regretted not having a warranty, and honestly it makes me nervous to be out of warranty on ANY German car over 60k miles. The issue is that a "small" problem here or there can cost you thousands, and those thousands would be better spent on a lower mile car and/or one covered by CPO.
