Need trouble shooting help
It's my wife's daily driver and she was buying whatever gas was cheapest---didn't know that, doesn't do that anymore. So I got some good gas with Techron in it and also added a bottle of Techron. I didn't expect that to help. Light came back on the next day. After burning about 3/4 of a tank I cleared the codes, the light stayed off until yesterday. It was running much rougher than the previous times. I am in MO rather than home in Dallas so no tools or diagnostic equipment. I took it to an independent shop that works on BMWs to pull codes, same codes as before. They cleared the codes. They light came on again shortly after they started it up. They drove it and the light went out. Same as before. Since the light came back on when the engine was at operating temp it is not something that only happens on a cold start. The codes are also the same as before. Codes: 2CA9--which is downstream cat and downstream O2 sensor heater 2 function 2D2E--which is throttle valve opening angle-intake pipe vacuum correlation 2F24--which is charge air/cooling system/reduced performance P112F--This came up in a generic code reader but he couldn't locate a description. He tried going to another BMW forum and no one knew but a couple also wanted to know because they have the same code. Shop couldn't spend any more time and is booked up until end of next week. What a would like to do is see if we can narrow it down to the core issue. The shop owner said he will try to fit me in if I can. FYI- they didn't charge me anything for the hour and a half they tried to find the problem. Help!

It sure does! Never would have thought about that.
If you googled to find this what search words did you use? Thanks much for response.

I just looked at the codes as to which one was critical to running condition and Googled "2D2E--which is throttle valve opening angle-intake pipe vacuum correlation"

I have no idea where the fuel tank vent valve is on the Mrs. X5M but you should be able to test it fairly easy if you know where to find it. Being in Missouri without your diagnostic tools is a nightmare. Can't imagine a lot of X5M's or S63's there

No, not seeing many BMWs at all. Nearest BMW dealer is 50 miles away in Kansas City.
My daughter is staying at our house. She is overnighting Foxwell reader so I will be able to do some troubleshooting. I don't know where the valve is either. I will be doing some searching and I have the service manual I can pull up to look there.

when you get foxwell you should be able to run the test on that valve. Also once you locate the hose you could pinch it off or plug it with a dowel for testing.
Compare banks for anything that stands out different. Check your throttle sensors very easy and there are two values that sweep opposite directions as one goes low the other high. If either reads badly the angle won't match in the computer. As suggested in the link check for vaccine leaks of course.

Back in Texas for a few days. Had no trouble on the drive from Missouri. Today the engine light came on an reduced power. Only codes other than miss fires which are symptoms is P112. I am going to replace the MAPs just because they could be the problem and they are overdue. Haven't had to work on X5M much so don't know the tricks and process. Does anyone know of a great manual to download? I have one but it is lacking to say the least.
In particular, I would like to read about replacing MAPs so I don't take a bunch of stuff off that isn't necessary. Have to find out what is wrong as have to head back to St. Joseph on Thursday.
