Well being a member here for a year and 1/2, I have heard about nearly every problem an X5 can have from transmissions, water pumps, window regulators to engine condensation valves etc.... Remarkibly enough, I have never heard anyone complain about problems with the air suspension.

Anyone else heard of an air suspension problem???

Good for us all and for me especially since my 2003 4.6is is getting closer and closer!!!

i am not a lucky owner yet but it seems my major doubts are gone...so what are the other things I should look out for, where to look what to magnify while inspecting the car before taking it to the dealership that sold it new to the present owner and serviced it from day one!

I've had my '03 4.6 for seven or eight months now and it has 70k miles on it, only issue I've had with it is a radio issue where they had to replace the whole nav/radio unit which, although not covered by the CPO warranty the dealer goodwilled me.
I say go for it if it passes a pre purchase inspection, I love mine a whole lot more than my previous 3.0 X5, sound of that 4.6 litre is intoxicating!

glad to hear YOU have no problems withthe car....my heart says GO FOR IT but my reasonable stingy scrooge says take all possible precautions and prepare yourself for what to come...like i've said before I had all the possible problems with my540...

Bottom line is if I did not have a great aftermarket warranty I would have paid out over $6,000US for the maintenance work that has been done on my X5... that is a scary number. 20% of the value of the vehicle!!! 20%!!!

i was thinking suspension not transmisssion sorry dont know where we got it wrong...anyways i was thinking was it possible to change the suspension from air to a normal suspension say from a 4.4 when things go wrong...i dont plan this but ask just in case...everyone would rather have a air suspension than a normal but it always comes down to one and that is how thick is our wallet...some thankfully have more others unfortunately have less but i guess all have the same emotions since we're on this forum...and true your 6k $ is scary nr!!!
