multi CD player not recognized 03 X5 3.0i

Hello, my multi cd player was working a few weeks ago. It is no longer recognized when I hit the mode button.. it goes from radio to tape and no longer stops at the CD option!! I ejected the 6 CD magazine and inspected the CDS and then placed back in. The CDs get slid to the right one at a time.. so mechanically it appears to work. I just can't seem to get it recognized by the system. Any clues? Thanks.

Try unplugging the changer from it's harnesses for a few minutes - see if a reboot recovers it. If not I'd say the changer is faulty. If you know someone with another BMW changer you could ask them to let you try it in your car so you know for sure before buying a replacement.

Thanks for the replies and the offer. I did try unplugging the power and data cables for a few minutes and looked around the unit.. did not seem to affect it. I will likely take it apart this weekend and see if there is anything inside I can repair.. a fuse, cap, loose change Thanks again.

khalil,

I had the same problem and did the follwing things:

1) remove battery cable negative side to reset - no change/failed

2) reset fuse at the back of CD changer - no change / failed

Conclusion :

1) You might need to find a good repair shop to open Cd changer and check if lens is still working.

2) Replace CD changer with an Alpine or similar brand with same connections at the back.

3) Go buy a DICE IPOD integration kit.

Thanks for the suggestion.. I plan on opening the unit today and see what I can see! If I ever replace the unit I would love to get a 12 cd changer and something that has cd text and allows playing mp3 cds.. oh that would be nice. I will research the dice ipod kit.. hope it is not too complicated to install and expensive.
