Mercedes E class

Hi

Has anyone driven a 2002 onwards Merc E class. How does it compare to the E53 BMW X5.

Does it drive better, is it more comfortable, better equipped etc.

I am thinking about changing to one, but would like a rough idea before I test drive what I am letting myself in for.

I have had E55 AMG 03, it is basicly same car, but an M in Benz World
Well it depends, i had mine fully loaded, with keyless go, sat nav, ventilated seats, panoramic roof, airmatic, and so on. It hat better features then the BMW, however !!! The car i had was a computer on wheels, so as your home pc it did not like it to cold, not to hot, not to wet and so on, i constantly had some kind of electronic issue, this is suppose to be better or fixed from 04 ,but 03 and specially 02 are not that good. There is one more thing you should check that is EBC it is an electronic brake system that benz introduced in E-Class and on the first models (02 -04) the brakes could mailfuncion, there is a free uppgrade with the dealer, make sure that it is done.
If the car is not fully loaded then you have nothing to worry about, less electronic on 02 means less truble. However there is one problem that will remaine, E-Class blows the lamps a lot dont know why, but you will probably have to change plate, position and brake lights often.
Then there is ofcurse the style, i personaly am not a benz person, al do the car i had handled the road as any beemer would, i felt old in it, BMW is always going to be a better car

Hope this will be hellpfull info for you

E61Silver is an unknown quantity at this point
The E is reaching the end of its current model year you can probably get a good lease deal The current model is well seasoned and has most of its electrical problems improved.

Apple: My 2005 X5. Remarkably fun car to drive. No recurrent problems. Great fun to drive.

Orange: My wife's 2003 E320. Multiple electrical gremlins the dealer claims to fix, but come back in a few days/weeks. Latest is the right front low beam headlight. Goes out; bulb and socket have been replaced; out again now. Tire pressure sensors not working; fixed; not working. You get the idea. Comfortable car, pleasure to drive. Annoying to own. Probably will not buy another MB for a long time (and this is the third MB we have had).

Yup!

Drove a 2006 E350... Nice smooth ride, but not the same at all with the thing as an X5.

My Mercedes E430 is the biggest POS ever. Transmission computer failure, transmission failure, electrical problems all the time, side mirrors fell off the other day, front plastic thing under the bumber fell of last week, power seat controls fell down inside the door, front differential is making horrindious noise now. Why on earth anybody would want this garbage car is beyond me. I'm looking to replace it ASAP with an X5.
