Air Bag warning light

I have an intermittent airbag warning light coming on. It only ever lights up when I have a front seat passenger in the car. So far the dealers have not come up with a solution and want me to replace the airbags mounted in the doors AND the infront of the passenger. This does seem excessive

Anyone had similar?
It is on a 2002 4.4 with 106,000 miles

Thanks

Paul

Start by checking out the airbag sensors in the seat and seat belt receptacle before you start replacing airbags.

air-bag sensor

I have the same problem with my 2003 jeep, this is a common problem with all bmw's not only the x5, the problem is a fautly sensor in the front passenger seat, the seat would have to be stripped to replace the sensor, so its not actually a problem with the airbags, its the sensor!

Ok so it is either the preassure mat in the seat or the controle module under the seat that is likely to be causing the fault.
Should I get my independent BMW garage to swap the mat or control box first?

As the mat seems cheaper I guess thats the best place to start.

Thanks guys

If you have a shop with better rates then the dealer, then yes.
