Post 19 has a dealer fix.
The noise mine makes comes from the engine compartment although can be heard inside the cabin as well. It's definately not from the steering column or cabin compornets of the steering.

So absolutely no steering noise on your x?

I have the same problem. is it confirmed to be the slip ring bushing?
