Unhappy Aluminum Running Board nub missing

I returned to my X5 last week and noticed that I was missing a grip pad on the driverside running board. I though it might have fell off, but when I tired removing one from one of the ends to replace the missing one which is in the center I was unable to pull it off with pliers so I am thinking it might have been purposely removed by someone.

Do you know where I can buy a replacement rubber grip pad w/o out having to buy a whole new running board?

You can special order it. The part number for the nub is 51-71-7-053-464 which costs about $0.22/ea.

How did they come off? And are they easily replaceable? How does it install/remove?
