VIN tag locations on panels

Hey guys,

I was checking out a used x5 to purchase and for the life of me couldn't find any VIN tags whatsoever on any of the door panels/trunk/bumpers. I did see some fairly conspicuous and large red arrows.

I owned an e36m3 and that definitely had VIN tags on all panels. Anyone know the deal with x5's? Thanks!

Ken

Vin number drivers side dashboard close to windshield. Easier to see from the outside.

Thanks for all the replies, guys. But the purpose of checking VIN stickers on panels is to verify that they are original panels that have never been painted over and / or replaced. Kind of like the etching in car windows.

It's a common technique to use when inspecting a car, at least here in these United States.

One of the Vin tags on my 2005 is on the door jam not the door itself

At some point BMW stopped tagging the panels with VIN numbers. All of the '80s & '90s BMWs I've owned had VIN stickers on various body panels. There are no VIN stickers on our 01 X5 or 04 X3. My 95 M3 is tagged. I wish they still did it since it would make buying preowned cars a litter easier.

I was looking for these also when I got the x. It does notnhave them like other BMWs. The best reason I can find is that the law does not require them on trucks.

The only car I have had that I noticed the tags was my 2002 Lexus RX300 - My 2005 X5 does not appear to have the tags though.
