I have a 05 3.0 w/ 21K .... does anyone have problems of brake dust..... its causing my wheels to look like gun metal grey.... this happens about a week after the car wash..... I also have a pilot but never exp. this much brake dust.... anyone have ideas besides getting brake dust covers ( I really don't want to... they look ugly )

Yes everyone has problems with brake dust because X5's have huge front disc brakes. GVW is like 5000-6000 lbs and X eats brakes fo breakfast. You can try switching to a "low dust" pad, like AXXIS Deluxe. You can also try using your breaks less, and driivng in tiptronic mode - downshifting to engine brake. As for dust covers, i am not sure. Might look pretty gay. There are already covers behind the rotors.

cmyX6go will become famous soon enough
Your Pilot may have nice clean wheels but it will never stop like your X5 will.

Trust me on this.....I'll take the brake dust.

Yah - I switched to low dust brake pads too - not stopping as well as before I'll admit, but my wheels sure are clean for weeks!!!

Yea, I bought the Axxis Deluxe pads too. Performance is below the stock pads. Good thing I can left foot brake quickly.

If it hasn't rained since the last time you washed your wheels, go to one of those self-serve car washes with the high pressure hand sprayer. Spend $1.50 and just blast your wheels. They will look 95% cleaner. This works really well if the wheels haven't gotten wet since the last wash and is much faster than doing it by hand. Otherwise get the Delux pads or as someone else already said use less brake by anticipating stops earlier. The X5 stops really well. A little dust is just the price we pay.

I bought hyperblack rims to disguise the brake dust in my X5.
