A big chunk of the US insurance is the Liability portion. That's because in the US, everyone like to SUE the crap out of everyone else. You tap someone on the bumper, next thing you know you get sued for $1 million with the guy claiming (among other things) that he can't "please" his wife anymore in bed because you screwed up his spine (never mind that it was a 2 mph bumper bump). The lawyers here get very creative!

There's no perfect country, every place has its' upside and its' downside.

Why does the tax pay for? What does each citizen get for that extra tax money that they normall could not get on their own?

Don't the US, India and China produce almost everything in the world

Gas in the US should already be cheaper, if we removed the useless federal gas tax and state gas taxes..

How many refineries and oil fields on the island again?

We acctually have nation wide public tranport that works, our roads dont have holes every inch or so, there are many chronical conditions that are coused by polutions (we do get free medic care) and so on.
Then there is allways the chain effect witch everyone will benefit from, if we dont buy 4,8is becouse of the fule milage, BMW will make sure that the next model will be more fuelefficent so thet would sell. Why do you think that companies like BMW pur $$$$$$$ in eficent fuel consumption and alternativ fule, becouse thay care ? dont think so, thay do it becouse thay have to, becouse EU makes them to by making laws that dont permit cars to polute as mutch. On your end of the world last i heard it was opposite, California was sued becouse they wanted better air and to limit how mutch a car can polute?

Oh, and we invaded Iraq to prevent a growing terrorist development country (Example: Sudan, Afghanistan, etc) from creating a huge terrorist machine that will overrun peaceful countries like yours and mine. When 3000 innocent mothers, fathers and children in Stockholm are helplessly burned alive or crushed to death, you may feel differently.

The fanatical Muslims are coming. They are telling you very clearly. You can ignore it and be slaughtered; or you can work to prevent them from gaining the strength to do the slaughtering. Sorry for being so graphic; but that's the picture they are painting for us to read.

One of the thousands of good things about America/Americans is: When those countries who deny the terrorism (or fanatical dictator - Hitler) reality and do get over run, we will always be there to come and help. Why? Because it is the right thing to do to preserve freedom. Please don't forget the thousands of dead Americans who are buried all over Europe to save that continent from its own menace in World War II.

I agree with the positive benefit of cleaner and more fuel efficient cars. I would rather our choices drive the car companies to make more fuel efficient cars, rather than taxes. If no one buys a 4.8is petrol version, then BMW will stop making them...

So how many refineries and oil fields on the island...that could help explain your gas costs...
