Angry X5 Breaks my heart again...

I have determined that the best way to describe owning my X5 to people who ask is that it is like having a smoking hot girlfriend that you just cant tame and know probably isn't the right girl for you on certain levels. You highly desire both, they are completely sexy and amazingly fun to be with when they are cooperating with you. However, both will totally break your heart. Yet you willingly take her back every single time knowing full well she is going to break your heart again because a few good months far outweigh the bad times.

I have had more than a few issues with my X5 in my short 14-month ownership period, but I know that when I pick her up from her newest heart breaker (shot fuel pump), she is guaranteed to put a smile on my face before I even make it home and that is precisely why I will forgive her one more time, knowing full well she is going to break my heart again. Well, maybe there is a chance I can tame her this time, right?

Oh, by the way the warranty makes it a lot easier to forgive her. I am not sure how easy it will be to forgive come 14k miles or 01/15/2010.

14-months (20k miles) of ownership and so far I have replaced the alternator, water pump, valley pan gasket, all drive belts, valve cover gaskets, thrust rod bushings and now the fuel pump. Not to mention normal wear and tear like front and rear brake pads/rotors, service inspection II, brake fluid flush and an oil change.

Just a little venting to make myself feel better.

FSETH,

That was a great analogy!

I hope my 04' X5 turns out to be more like a dependable brunette that you want to keep, than a smokin' hot blonde. In the 1+ month that I've owned it, I've loved every minute of it, and I find myself making up reasons to go to the store, even though gas is getting high.

Sorry to hear you've had these troubles! What year model do you have?

I have an 02 4.4 sport package with 85k. I havn't posted any photos yet because all I have are old ones that aren't very clear. Here are a couple of the best ones that I curently have. I will post a few more after I clean it up this spring. These were taken right after purchase in Jan of 07. I have since put on some Toyo Proxes S/T's, so the wheels look a little sportier now. Try not to pay too much attention to the junky garage in background of the interior photo. We just moved into the house 3 months before this photo was taken.

Nice!
Mine cheats on me also. Whenever I can't please her she sneaks off to the dealer and comes back full of smiles. Bitch!!

FSETH,

Nice...I like the dark green color. I'm sure it looks awesome when it's clean. Let's hope you have all of the gremlins fixed now, and you can enjoy her for a long time to come. Glad to hear you have the warranty for a few more K. These types of issues is exactly why I went w/ a CPO'd X5.

Later!

Nice comparison to a hot babe. I've used the same in the past. Thank God for the warranty. Many of the problems like water pump, belts, valve cover gaskets are common faliure problems at that mileage. You probably want to check the CV boots while youre at it. Back to your comparison, once you work through the "issues" you'll have a hot, reliable ride for a long time. Good luck
