First snow encounter

Yep, the X had its first snow encounter on weekend. Here's a pic. Not the best of lighting, but you guys get the idea, overall a very fun weekend of plenty snowboarding We rented 4 cars, and I was the only one driving my own car Oh, and 1 full tank for the whole trip (close to 1000km trip overall)

And there was this night when it was 0.5 degrees celcius, and when I tried starting the X it did nothing for 2 secs (displayed on OBC was "PREHEATING") and then it started. Is this normal?

Diesel, I suspect?

O degs C is not that cold to most of us North Americans for "winter".
Dunno what preheating would be, other than glow plugs in your RuddyD motor.

I bought my '01 X in LA, it never saw snow until it was 2 years old and I got it back to Long Island. The first snow encounter was with the 19" sport rims/tires, and let me tell ya, it wasn't pretty. I was heading over to a friends house and the X turned into a sled as i drove down a hill. I slid right across a 4 lane road like the X was on ice skates and narrowly avoided hitting a school bus and 2 cars. Suffice to say the '04 has 18's and I'm anxiously awaiting the first blizzard to hit "north and west of the city" (a phrase NY/NY/CT/LI people know all too well is the area the gets hit hardest in the tri state area).

And just for that that, we have to travel 6 hours to reach the snow.

LOL last January we had a whole week where every single day it was a high of -15*C and a low of -25*C.

With the wind overnight it was between -30*C and -40*C. Blanket anyone?

Hehehe when you gave gas in the X5, it was so cold that the vaporized exhaust fumes became huge, and I looked like a choo-choo train!

By the way, frost bite can be achieved in under 5 minutes under those conditions. The X5's washer fluid lines froze during those days!

I had the same problem, the x had the washer fluid that the dealer had put in there, so i put the X in a friends garage and drained all the fluid, added new 100% fluid NO WATER and i had no more problems during the winter

People have been driving around on "all season" tires for too long - moved out here to eastern Idaho 4 yrs ago (exactly) - drove back to NJ for Christmas - My brother-in-law asked if I had any problems on the trip because he noticed I had a different wheel on the back - I reminded him what we used to do years ago... OK decades ago, I had on snow tires.
