Fuel Injector Flush?
Had my 04 X5 with 40K miles serviced today and the dealer recommended I have them perform "Fuel Injector Flush Service" as it is allegedly time based on my miles and it never being done. Is this worth doing or is it an upsell? How do they do it?
Thanks! |

Do you use a good quality gas with detergents or add any fuel system cleaner every once in a while? If so, I don't think I would pay for that service. Here is a list of top tier gas brands who are known to use good quality detergents to keep the fuel system clean. If you buy from one of these places often, I wouldn't bother with that service.

I only run Chevron high test in my 01'4.4. The ingredient "Techron" is a proven detergent and Chevron is a top rated fuel for high performance engines.

The only way to have injectors flushed or cleaned out is to remove them from the rail and to send them out to have them cleaned by a professional cleaning service. Cruzin Performance amon others are the only ones I know that backflow injectors to clean them out. http://www.cruzinperformance.com/
All of the "injector flush" services I have heard of put a double shot of Techron in your tank and charge you a couple hundred for their "service". As others have said if you use a gasoline with high quality additives there is no reason to worry about an "injector flush".http://www.popularmechanics.com/auto...o/4220245.html |

You can do the Techron additive yourself. After two applications and tanks of driving, you'll be fine.

Thanks for all the input, they were saying it cost around 200. I just bought the car CPO so I am not sure how the previous owner treated the car as far as gas goes. I personally only put in Chevron, Shell, or 76 into the car so I guess after this point forward I won't need to worry about the "flush".
