roadkingdoc is on a distinguished road
x5 oil use

my 01 x5 3.0l is going thru a quart oil approx every 1000-1500 mi. there is no oil leak i can see. any thing to check? i was hoping not to have to rehab with rings ,seals and bearings. roadkingdoc 75,000 mi.

Yup..thats sounds about right. Mine is the same model and year..No leaks..The X just burns oil for breakfast.. Just top it off if it gets too low..Bimmer's burn alot of oil in general..

Meanwhile our '01 3.0L uses very little oil between changes.

Same with my '01 4.4i...never needed to add oil in between changes (every 15,000 miles).

I guess a quart seems a bit high for every 1000 miles...Mine doesn't burn quite that much...But it does burn some...

A 6,000 lb. vehical is gooing to burn some oil. Same problem with my 02 3.0. A lot of weight to pull around.

Don't sweat your "consumption"; it's well within BMW specs for
any of their cars/motors, esp. a 2001.

Whatever "usage" you get here is anecdotal and should be no
cause for concern with your 1000-1500 miles per qt.
