2004 4.4 X5 w/45,000 miles - has developed a highly noticable vibration at around 60MPH. Seems like the front end - steering wheel vibrates and front suspension is rough - it feels like the car is going over a wasboard road. . It goes away as speed increases past 65 MPH. I have an appointment with dealer on Wed. Weather here in upstate NY is mild right now so there is no chance of snow or mud buildup - I think. I realize it could range from out of balance tire to who knows what.....any experience with this issue?
Thanks - John |

I recently had the same problem and it ended up to be a sticking brake caliper! Check your front rotors after driving with this problem occuring and see if one is hotter than the other, you may even notice a color difference ( mine was almost blue). My mechanic used a device that he pointed at it with and the difference was about 100 degrees! My problem was the right front caliper.

Interesting that it goes away after 65mph....
Another idea if you can crawl under - take a quick peek at the rear of the wheel just in case there is a dent or crack....winter potholes.... |

I think I know what is your problem. The problem is one of your tires is off balance. It happened to me before and I had a tech guy ask me about the passenger seat shake or not.
My passenger was shook a lot at 65-75mph but after 75 and up it's okie. So they told me the problem was a rear tire is out off balance. So have your car's balance check. That will solve the problem |

I have this problem where the passenger seat shakes like crazy around 60mph (100km/hr). It does it on my summer and winter wheels and both were recently balanced, could it be something suspension related???
