I have one green light left, need some advices.

Hello,

Today, I hit 30k miles w/one green light left, and my warranty will be expired on 11/08.
I had Inspection I (around 15k miles) and brake service (around 20k miles) only one time back in 2006.

I think it's about time to get oil service, but since I still have one green light left, I can't go to dealershop yet.

should I wait until yellow light comes on or get oil service or any other check at independent shop first?

the reason why I'm asking is, my X5 was sitting in the garage for 6 months last year, and another 6 months in 2006 w/ battery disconnected.
I'm just wondering if this will cause any engine problem or something else.

so, it will be ok to wait until yellow light comes on?

oh btw, it's for 2005 X5 4.4i

Thanks for any inputs.

You never have to wait for the lights to tell you to change your oil. IMO it should be changed every 5K miles or annually regardless of mileage if you use synthetic, and more frequently if you use dino oil. The lights are a guide, but imo, since BMW started paying mantinence, the intervals are set way too long.

In your situation, I would change it now instead of waiting.

Thank you for quick reply,

ok, I'll get oil change from independent shop first and ask them to don't reset the service light,
so once I get yellow light on, I can still get Inspection I.

that will be ok, right?

I currently have 30k miles, and didn't have another oil service after Inspection I yet.

I'm just wondering if you have an idea how long it will take to get yellow light on?
if it takes too long, I'd rather get oil service first..

what do you think?

your dealer will change your oil for you, you don't have to pay an independent shop. (its also easy to DIY) they will check your history and change it if it has been sufficiently long enough.

that's good to hear!
I thought dealer won't change oil for free unless yellow light is on.
that's why I was going to visit my local independent shop.

Thank you Islands52

just to be sure, you can call your service advisor and have him look up the history on your x.

Dissconecting battery will only affect date for changeng brake fluid.
As for the free service.....
Dealer will most likely do inspection I on your car considering the time to last service and one green light. Lets say that you had served it less then a yeare ago and have 2 green lightsm dealer would turn you down for a free service. The free service is ? miles (80.000km) or 3 years whitch ever comes first, so in europe it basicly means you serve the car 3 times for free, if you drive agressive all the time you might get 4 services for free. I am talking about EU serviceplan i doubt that there is mutch diference in US
