Ceiling console

Does anyone know what is inside this section of the ceiling console? The section farthest away from the windshield, in front of the garage door opener buttons, that has some sort of ventilation holes in it.

I believe it is part of the electronics for the sunroof. The motor for the panoramic roof is a little larger and I believe it goes in that spot. On non pano roofs we get sun glass holders...

That is true. Its the electronics for sunroof. If you miss the sunglass holder then you need to do Supergreg's ashtray mod. That's where I put my sun glasses.

That was the first mod I did! When I found this site, and saw all the cool things you guys had posted, I knew I had found something worthwhile!

Thanks for answering my mystery question.

The section that has the vents contains the ultrasonic module for the alarm, to monitor movements inside your cabin. Prior to the introduction of the pana roof, this ultrasonic module was housed in the rear passenger overhead compartment. Since the pana roof requires a big chunk of the overhead, BMW moved the module to the front overhead compartment, where it used to be the sunglass holder.
