I suspect that your accessory belt ain't there.
So hence alternator can't charge battery, no power steering and no cooling.

And you gonna blow the head gasket if you haven't done so already, and you gonna get strong arm muscles from trying to steer without assistance from the power steering.

Same thing happened to me on the highway a few months ago. I pulled over just before overheating. There is probably a reason why your accessory belt went out. Your mechanic should check out the components that run off the belt. The water pump is one of the things powered by the accessory belt and your car will overheat very quickly without a functioning one. In my case, my water pump failed and caused the belt to break. I definitely wouldn't drive the car in that condition, just have it towed to a shop.

Please keep us updated on how much it cost to repair, so us DIYer's can rejoice about how much money we do save to put into other mods//hobbies/SO's shopping habits. LOL

Ugh..... I found this thread just now. The exact same thing happened to me on the way home from work this evening and I almost got sent into the offramp wall.
Luckily it happened 2 minutes from home. Gonna take it to the Indy shop tomorrow... --Update-- Had it towed to my Indy shop. Water Pump went out. $700 parts + labor to replace the pump + belts. Last edited by donovan; 02-18-2009 at 03:09 PM. |
