Honestly, not much. I do not have the sport package so that gives me about an 1" more clearance than an X w/sport. Then the Range Rover wheels and tires are taller in circumference by about an inch, which helps clearance a good bit. I sit noticeably taller than most X5's when I park next to them. I also have the rear air suspension, which I have found to be fairly "flexible". You can see in the first two pictures that one side compresses really well as the other side expands easily.

The X5 is certainly not what I would call an off road machine like a 4runner, Land Cruiser, Jeep, etc. but it does have a few great offroading attributes. The most apparent to me is the great low end torque - you rarely have to use any gas to get over obstacles, and when you need the high rpms for things like deep sand, the power is there too. The other thing that is fabulous for off camber situations is the balance that the X has. I have had it teterring on two wheels before and was not worried at all about tipping.

Before I owned the X, I was really into Jeeps and Land Cruisers and which I've owned both. The last Jeep I had was lifted, had lockers, had an on board air compressor, had rock crawling tires, etc. So I guess I only take the X off the pavement because I miss the Jeep so much .

Hmmm, I thought you have to have the Sport pkg to get rear air suspension?? Is that something you added??

Nope - it came factory. I believe it comes standard on all 4.4i models. This is not the adjustable air suspension, it's just the one with self level adjust and airbags for springs in the rear.
