Hi everyone,

Let me start by thanking everyone that contributes to this forum, it has been a real treasure chest of information regarding our beloved X5's.

I did a search on the topic of "self leveling suspension" and came across several posts that dealt with this issue.

My personal experiences with this issue is that my X5 started leaning on the driver side after left overnight, after starting the car everything was fine..the car leveled itself out without any problems.
This issue however started to worsen over the course of a week or so, to the point that the car would not level itself out.
I brought the car to my dealer (BMW of Montgomery AL) and they replaced the airpump (July 2007) btw my car is a 2002 so it was just outside the warranty.

That however didnt solve the problem and they proceded to replace the REAR airbag...although the problem seemed to be with the left (driver side) front suspension.

The car has been back there roughly 5 times before the issue was resolved...they replaced the whole shock absorber and that seemed to do the trick.

When we got the car back we noticed however that the whole car would lower itself after standing over night, we thought (still think) that this was a feature that came with the car....when opening the door the car would errect :-) itself upright and everything was fine.......

I called my dealership this morning since the car now drops on the passenger side after sitting for just a couple of hours...also the car does not react to the button to either lower or bring the car up...it does bring the right side up somewhat but not the whole way......

Question:
My question to the forum members is......Is there a feature where the WHOLE car lowers itself after time and comes up the minute you open the door?

I have to give praise to BMW of Montgomery, although they might have not diagnosted the problem correctly on the first try they did go beyond and about their way to keep the cost of the whole problem within reason....I got most of the parts and labour for free.

Question:
How long is the warranty on work and parts?

I will be bringing in my car next week Monday for them to resolve this issue as well....anybody know what could have caused this problem to re occur?..

Ben, I just saw this post.

Does your car have "driver adjustable suspension"? If it does, there will be a switch to the left of the steering column (USA models).

Depending on your response, I have a lot of first hand insight into this issue.

Tim,

Yes I had the 3 way switch to control the ride height, I have however disposed of the car...on a Saturday morning we noticed that the car's low waterlevel came on again...after I had filled it up earlier in the week...that was for me the signal to get another car....yep you guessed it...another X5 ..this time a 2008 4.8 it is a total departure from the old one. I am glad I dont have to deal with the issues of the old one anymore. Hopefully we will have better luck with this one.
