**Update** Tiptronic NOT so manual

I've got a tranny problem with my '01 4.4. According to the manual and info received on this site, I should be able to start off in 3rd gear while in manual mode. But now when I'm in manual mode and shift to 3rd before rolling, the indicator will automatically go down to 1. Also when in drive mode under light acceleration the car will shift at a very high RPM. 1-2nd gear at 3500, 2-3rd 4000. Doing 70mph the car is stuck in 4th and won't go to 5th either in manual or auto mode. What the heck is going on here...any ideas what may be wrong?
Appreciate any insight.
Thanks.

**Problem Solved**

Dealer finally solved the shifting issue, and believe it or not, the cause was a faulty wiring harness that attaches to the valve body inside the tranny. The X now shifts as it should!!
BMW has published a TSB describing these exact same problems, but NOT for the X5. It's for another model that shares the same tranny as ours.
Good info to have in case any of you experience these symptoms.

Which other vehicle uses this tranny? I thought the each of the X5 transmissions are unique to our model.

According to the service report, the bulletin number is SIB24 02 01. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the E38 740i and E39 540ia share the same tranny as our X?
