I am not sure what to search for to learn more about this module. The stealer wants over $1,300 for it. Is this something I could order and replace or have my mechanic replace or am I stuck with going back to the stealer? Thanks, Eric 2001 X5 - 103,000 mi

Ok, I did my homework...
The correct term is called "Transmission emergency program (DDE control unit)" Has anyone had to replace this module before? Is this module available for purchase other than the stealer? Is it a bear to have installed? Any assistance will be much appreciated. -Eric

It the truck doing anything that would indicate the transmission is a problem? Thats not a common unit to fail. Try disconnecting the Battery for about 10 minutes then clear the code and see if it returns.

The Dealer says this the computer tests show the transmission is fine when the computer is hooked up directly to it. Its just the communication between the two computer units.
I havent tried disconnecting the battery, I'll give that a try and let you know. Thanks, Eric

These control units rarely fail. First thing to check is the wiring harness and all connections. Failures with electronic components are usually at the connectors, Also, you can learn all about the TCM here:
