And that would be part#1 on this link.
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=11&fg=50&hl=2 But the question is what is the actual fault with the O2 sensor??? Most O2 sensor faults are either "mixture too lean" or "mixture too rich" and it also makes a difference if the mixture fault(s) are set at idle or under load.

The peake scan tool code was bC.
When I looked it up, it said Precat 02 sensor heater circuit cyl 1-3 |

For a while we were fixing the O2 sensor heater circuit code with programming the DME as the specifications were too narrow and they have new guidelines with the new software.
And from the looks of it, the labor charge for the DME programming at the dealer may cost less than the O2 sensor itself. Worth a call to the dealer to confirm.

How do I tell what I need for this? The alarm light only comes on after awhile, at which point I've been reseting it.

If this happens often and comes back after resetting every time, then it probably does have O2 heater circuit problems, but it could still be the parameters in the DME set too stringent which is what's fixed with the programming. But a call to the dealer would confirm that the bulletin applies to you (which I believe it does) and that i has not been done yet in the service history.
