What Is This?

My apologizes if this is a total noob question, I always wondered what those things on the front bumper/in front of the headlights were, is it there just for styling? Mine doesn't have those so is it difficult for me to install those on my bumper...thanks ~

Also had to steal the picture from khitch1 ..sorry about that!

They're headlight washers. They're part of the Cold Weather Package. I don't know if you can retrofit them.

It's possible to retrofit, but it's not that easy. You will need the new bumper, the washer nozzles, the fluid line running from the reservoir to the front bumper, and a new wiper stalk on the steering column. Is it worth it? NOPE.

personally, I'm glad mine did not have them. don't really like the look of them and since i don't do any off-roading, my headlights don't get that dirty.

not sure if its worth going thru the hassle of retrofitting.

I admit they are cool looking but super glue to just acheive a look as pushing it. If your gonna do it ...do it right...otherwise leave it alone.

I don't use them often, but I like the look they give the nose of the X. Like a bad-ass Prehistoric rhino. My 4 year niece thinks it looks like one anyhow.

I would have liked to have had them on my X5, but I didn't order them originally and I would not consider retrofitting them. I have had them on many vehicles, and have them on the current 325xi. They are very useful in bad weather (slush, snow). The downside is that you use a lot more washer fluid. Some designs work better than others. The 3 series has hidden washers that don't stick out like the X5.
