Reset mileage how to

searched the forums and read the FAQ, we don't have the OBC manual, so I am in the dark ...

We want to reset the mileage/consumption function on the computer of our newly acquired 2004 4.4i sport X5

TIA

There are manuals for each year on the home page of this site.

If you're talking about the MPG...

you go to the Consumption1 and 2, and hit the clear button

if you're talking about the tripmeter, hit the left toggle in the cluster

if you're talking about the odometer, you can't

I forget, but it's either Clear or Reset

should be located to the right side of the screen. you may need to keep the Consumption info on the screen then press the BC button to 'move back' a menu to see the option

we do not have nav, just the stalk on the steering wheel

also looked at the PDF file on the home page, we have that manual, we need the info contained in the Onboard Computer Manual (a separate one apparently)

no worries, I was talking about your radio. that's where you can follow my instructions

click the BC/clock button until you see CONSUMP1 or 2 located in the third and fourth positions on your radio screen.

then hit the reset button which should be your last soft key button. if the reset isn't there, you can follow post #5 to find that button

Yes you can, but it would be illegal.
Reprogramme the instrument cluster, the LKM and your key to any mileage you want it to show.

Please no PM's on this!!

If it's illegal, that means you cannot do this. Any encouragement saying you can would be wrong and irresponsible.
