01 X5 OB scanner/code reader

Whats the best all around OBII scanner? I know I got an airbag code coming up but I'm pretty sure its the front right passenger sensor as it only activates when someone is sitting their. I'm looking at around $100 price tag.

I'd like the option to reset basic error codes.

R5/SRS AirBag Scan and Reset Tool for BMW. Scans airbag diagnostic fault codes, resets SRS / Airbag light on the dashboard. Great for racers, installers and body-shops. Includes code book. $129.99

Cheaper at the distributors - YMMV.

Ahh but I don't want just an airbag scanner. I want an all around one. One for mechanics.

Those two are not mutually compatible.

The Peake SRS tool will take care of your SRS problem as that is what it is designed to do. If you want pro type tools then add another zero to your bottom line price.

Plugs straight into your OBDII connection, you will need a pc or laptop to download updates via a serial connection.

jmweb,

did you get the peake diagnostic tool or the U581. I need to get a scanner and am not sure if I need live data capability or not. does the peake diagnostic tool have any special advantage over the U581 since it is designed specifically for BMW's.

Any advice from the experts would be most welcome. Does anyone else have any recommendations?
