I think my tranny is jumping

When I come to a stop from 5mph to 0, I felt a little jump in the rear.....anyone else feel this?

Is it the tranny or what?

Does it happen all the time?

Lately my tranny has been kicking sometimes too. Randomly, during acceleration and then slowing down (but never to a stop).

Transmission software needs re-programming - BMW is aware of this.

I had same thing a few years ago....jerking from 1-2 and 2-1 and sometimes felt like I got rear ended. Reprogramming solved it in my case.

Ok so I just got off the phone with Orange County BMW in New York and the Service Manager ran my VIN, just told me that my X5 had no sort of upgrade software nonsense to the tranny or any other type of recall or anything else.

BUT...........(service manager aka the liar)

When I also "fibbed" to him telling him one of the VP's of BMW North America IT guy (who is my good friend) sent me the email he then changed his mind and told me there could be a possible upgrade but hes not sure but for me to bring the car in and it will cost about $115 for an ugrade.

Does this sound right for those of you that have re-programmed the tranny?

BTW my warranty is over, I have 86K miles and the X is in tip top shape!

My SA and SDM told me the same thing. They searched and searched and couldn't find one.

They wouldn't lie to me. (Close family friends.)

FWIW I also have a 2003, mine is a 3.0.... I had the tranny software update. I was having a similar problem with rough shifting, but I was also going into "safe Mode". I ended up replacing the transmission shift module and having the update... so there is definately an update out there... they might have to contact another bmw dealer to find out the details... I had mine done at Swope BMW in Louisville KY. just this last november (2007)

It may be a a reconfig/reprog for a control module... Referring to a tranny software update is a bit vague
