Problem with heated seats

I have a 2002 X5 3.0i and don't use the heated seats often. We were at Tahoe last week and when I pushed the button, it cycled through the 3 levels as usual, but 1-2 seconds after selecting the level, the light goes out - and no heat. Both driver and passenger seats. Anyone else experienced this, or have an ideal of what might be going on?

Not sure what's causing this - could be the power fuse for the heated seats has blown. The manual mentions being able to switch off the higher heat modes by pressing and holding the button a little longer. The instruction is a bit vague but worth a try.
