Final Stage Resistor or Aux Fan?

Hey guys,

I can't figure out which one is faulty:

A/C not working and aux fan not coming on when A/C is on.
A/C compressor DOES engage.

I checked voltage on harness going to fan, and I get 14V on one wire, 3.5V on other wire, and a ground. Voltages are the same with or without A/C on. I can't get the fan to turn on hooking it straight to 12 volts.

Any ideas? Maybe fan relay?

Anyone?

I'm thinking, if I can't get the fan to work by itself (hooking it to 12V manually), then it's probably the fan.

But then, how come the voltage doesn't change on the fan plug, with or without the A/C on?

Yeah that's what I thought due to other posts and the readings on the fan plug. But shouldn't I be able to get the fan spinning? Unless I need a new fan too...

I think there is a way of testing the fan, but I can't find any info on that.

That's a good starting place. The FSR will make your A/C and blower fan do weird things. Start there, and let us know how things go!

Same thing happened to me. I started with the FSR but still no cold air came out. Had to change the whole auxilliary fan assembly...

Hooking up 12V to these fans directly does not seem to get them to run. My new one wouldn't run with 12V hooked up directly, but ran fine once installed. I don't know if it requires a gate signal to turn on or what. I did find that if I pulled the plug off the pressure switch on the A/C line the fan ran at the highest speed. You might want to test it that way.

I just had mine done as well. I had no cold air coming out so when I made an appointment, I told them its the FSR since I'm under warranty but when I showed up at the dealer the SA told me it can't be the FSR if air is blowing. It has to be something else...sure enough, after I picked up the car...the receipt says Auxiliary Fan replaced.

Get the FSR at autohausaz.com they are the cheapest. If you need it sooner, it will be about 30 bucks more at the dealer. There is a writeup on the homepage. It is pretty easy to do, just a small space.
